Message from the President

Our School year is well under way now and I hope all your challenges are being met with that triumphant sensation of winning. If you’re ready for some fresh teaching ideas to bring into your classroom, our chapter has some terrific workshops coming up.

Let me begin with a very special thank you to all our guest clinicians last year. Steven Calantropio, Kay Lehto, and Shirley McRae, thank you all for a fun and professional experience. In addition, we had a fantastic member lesson share hosted by our past Vice President, Gina Rasinski. A big THANKS to Luis Delgado, Holly Gilster, Carla Haynes, and Matthew Pedredon, for all the work you put in to make the day extra special. And, of course, thank you to all the people who go unnoticed and underappreciated. Making workshops happen takes a ton of work from a lot of people, from scheduling and set up to tear down, thank you all. Finally, no thanks can be big enough for all the work done by Imogene Jones. Imogene has been the work and brains behind our Funtastic Summer Music Camp. This camp has been a wonderful opportunity for children to experience music in the summer time. Recently, Imogene has decided to pass the baton for this project on … we’re looking for a member with a little fire in the belly to run with this. Thank you again and again Imogene.

Get involved! If you want to help out with workshops, let us know.

This year’s three big workshops are going to be amazing, be sure you’re there. Susie Davis-Splitter and her husband Phil will start us off in late October (27) followed by Paul Halstead in mid February (16) and finally Matt McCoy in early March (8). In addition, we’re working on another lesson share sometime in the spring.

Become a member! We’ve got scholarships this year for our members. If you are a member and attend at least three workshops for the school year, lesson share counts too, your name will go into a drawing for a $100.00 cash scholarship to the next AOSA National Conference. BUT THAT’S NOT ALL … We will offer two (2) traveling scholarships per year. If you are a member driving in a car pool with at least three other people attending a workshop, you could be awarded a $45.00 traveling scholarship. Contact us early if you want to qualify for these, there are only two per year.

All my best,

Derek Warren
